FamilyAtlasA child app follows the enrolled device
Supported device-level controls can help manage apps, limits and family requests on a child's phone or computer. Their availability depends on the operating system, permissions and setup. A device app can continue to enforce supported local rules away from the home network.
App control is especially relevant when the task is about an individual application or an on-device time budget. Check offline behavior, missing-permission warnings and how a child requests an exception. Location and family check-ins are separate capabilities, not something a router automatically provides.
A gateway reaches devices that cannot run a child app
A TV or game console may not support the same child app as a phone. A home gateway can bring supported connected devices into schedules, internet pauses and network filtering. It must be installed in the traffic path; merely owning one does not mean all traffic passes through it.
Network visibility is not the same as app-level visibility. A connection or domain record cannot, by itself, tell you exactly which encrypted video someone watched. A network pause also does not stop an offline game.
Check the edges of the network
Test guest Wi-Fi, mobile data and any network path that bypasses the controller. Your family should understand which devices and connections a rule applies to. Router hardware and a Wi-Fi access point are not always the same thing.
FamilyAtlas HomeControl uses an optional Brume 2 wired gateway with a compatible Wi-Fi router or access point. The gateway does not supply Wi-Fi itself. Follow the supported setup instead of changing the household router blindly.
- Confirm the child's device is identified correctly.
- Apply a temporary rule to one device before expanding the scope.
- Check both blocked traffic and an allowed activity.
- Verify that removing the rule restores access.
When using both makes sense
Use device-level controls for supported phone or computer tasks, and HomeControl for supported home-network routines such as TV and console schedules. Keep the scopes clear so a family member understands why a rule applies.
