BLOCK SPECIFIC YOUTUBE CHANNELS

Block YouTube channelsLess of that channel.
More room to explore.

You may be happy with a drawing tutorial and uncomfortable with another creator’s videos. FamilyAtlas’s Android preview lets you set a channel rule from an observed, confirmed channel identity instead of making a blanket decision about all of YouTube.

A channel decision, not a YouTube-wide ban.

Review a channel’s observed identity and confirm a rule. Keep unrelated allowed videos as a separate choice.

A BOUNDARY. NOT A DEAD END.

“This one is blocked.”
Then, another choice.

When identified content is blocked, the warning is scoped to that content. Your child can move to another allowed video instead of being required to leave YouTube.

That does not override a separate whole-app block or other rules. The goal is to explain the boundary clearly and leave a path to permitted content.

PARENT CHOICES. CHILD-DEVICE SETUP.

Set it up. Check it together.

  1. 01

Review the observed channel and the identity shown in the parent controls.

  2. 02

Confirm its exposed handle, channel ID or explicitly confirmed displayed name before creating the rule.

  3. 03

Check that the child’s enrolled Android device applied it, then test another allowed channel.

What are the two access steps?

Supervision access and playback access are separate parts of the child-phone setup. Complete the agreements and permission steps presented by FamilyAtlas, then return to check protection status. Observation of videos and Shorts does not, by itself, mean a blocking rule is enabled.

A rule saved by a parent is not proof it has been applied on the child phone. Check the reported state, open identified blocked content, and confirm that another allowed video still works. Missing permissions or YouTube interface changes can affect enforcement.

THE QUESTIONS BEHIND THE SETTING

Before you choose.

How does FamilyAtlas know which channel to block?

Channel rules use an exposed handle, channel ID or explicitly confirmed displayed name. Unknown identities are not guessed. Displayed names can be ambiguous, so confirm the identity before applying the rule.

Will this change recommendations in my child’s YouTube account?

This is device supervision, not an account-wide YouTube preference. It does not promise to remove the channel from every recommendation, search result or other device. Enforcement concerns identified blocked content in the supported environment.

Can my child watch a different channel after the warning?

Yes: the content-specific warning is intended to let the child move to another allowed video. It should not require leaving YouTube entirely. Any additional rules you have set still apply.

Does the same channel rule protect the living-room TV?

No. Native Android supervision applies to enrolled Android devices. A home-network controller can apply supported whole-service rules, but it cannot identify and block individual encrypted YouTube channels.

Is this the same as YouTube Restricted Mode?

No. Restricted Mode is a separate content-filtering setting. It is not a specific-channel rule or an all-Shorts switch. Network filtering, account preferences and device supervision should not be treated as interchangeable.
